when I search for “home” in my iTunes, I get 71 results. my favorite probably being Atmosphere’s “always coming back home to you.” Like Atmosphere, I’m usually really happy to be back home in Minnesota. It’s always nice to return to my favorite spots, eat a punch pizza, spend hours at dunn bros, enjoy a joyride or two and see lakes on a daily basis again. But this extended visit home has been a lot different. I have very few friends in town, so I’ve had more than a comfortable amount of time to myself. Between spending more time than can possibly be healthy in the over-air-conditioned walls of the deli and working towards watching every episode of SVU available on Netflix, I’ve come to realize that, for the first time, home feels less like home. Besides living in a new house, I feel like I, along with my friends, are actually growing up. I’ve even begun to feel like I don’t completely fit in here, anymore. It’s really been freaking me out. I truly miss DC and my friends there and, while my intense longing to return to the city with my people may be stronger during this somewhat uneventful summer, I know it won’t go away when I’m traipsing around India in the fall. In the meantime, here’s to bubble tea at tea garden, lounging at the beach and making rotisserie chicken salad.
